The American Bookbinders Museum presents:

Stenciling in Book & Applied Arts: From Japanese Katazome to French Pochoir and Back Again

Late 19th century Japanese graphic design can claim to have first inspired the Impressionist movement, then Art Nouveau, the Wiener Werkstaette Secessionist movement as well as Art Deco and beyond. While much of this influence is well documented in the phenomena of Japonisme, this exhibition will describe the less well-known process by which European Art Deco comes around full-circle to influence the Japanese Taisho aesthetic movement of the 1920s and ‘30s.

Check out the museum’s website for more information about this exhibition and visiting the museum.
