Walking Tours

The ADSC's walking tour program needs volunteers!  Are you an Art Deco buff?  An architecture geek? A gregarious loudmouth? Would you like to be trained to give Art Deco architectural walking tours? We have an archive of great information about tour routes in San Francisco and Oakland, but we need a few good volunteers to step up, step out and lead our tours.  Contact us if you are interested!

Meanwhile, we highly recommend you check out these free tours offered through the San Francisco Public Library. ADSC Preservation Director Therese Poletti is one of the guides offering Art Deco tours, as are ADSC members Rory O'Connor and Kathleen Beitiks, specialists on Coit Tower.

Some Deco-related offerings include:

Art Deco Marina

Diego Rivera Mural at the Stock Exchange (a stunning Timothy Pflueger interior!)

Downtown Deco

Coit Tower Murals

oakland heritage alliance summer walking tours

Oakland Heritage Alliance offers a fascinating  line-up of walking tours every summer, in July and August. Although none of them is specifically centered on Art Deco, many will help you discover little-known 1920s neighborhoods and other early 20th-century architectural treasures. See the full list here and don't miss Tiles and Terracotta in Uptown Oakland (July 29, 2018 at 10:00 a.m.)
