What did people eat on aircraft in the early days of aviation? Box lunches of fried chicken and apples were handed to passengers as they boarded or distributed in flight by the co-pilot before the hiring of stewards and stewardesses. With the introduction of the Douglas DC-3 in #1936 came one the first airliners designed with a galley to handle onboard food preparation, which allowed for a more elaborate meals. What has been your favorite inflight meal?

The Bellevue Club is on beautiful Lake Merritt in #Oakland California.
This huge Maxfield Parrish painting, “The Pied Piper of Hamlin”, was commissioned in the aftermath of the 1906 great earthquake and fire, making its debut with the grand reopening of San Francisco’s landmark #PalaceHotel in 1909.
In March 2013, to the shock of patrons, hotel owners quietly removed the painting, and it was whisked off to Christy’s in NYC for auction the very next day. #SFHeritage along with the #artdecosocietyofcalifornia and other #SanFrancisco arts and historical organizations quickly petitioned to return the painting. The hoteliers capitulated, had the painting restored and returned the namesake to its intended spot at the Pied Piper Bar & Grill in August 2013.
In appreciation of their decision, Heritage named it one of the city’s 25 most legendary Legacy Bars & Restaurants, and while it’s not Deco, it’s an important part of SF History, and the #ADSC has used it as a gathering spot for several events. #Preservation in action! ・・・ #Repost @markesackett.theboxsf ・・・
