Three very charming and smartly-dressed lads at Stop 4 on Saturday’s historic bar crawl! And what a hoot it was! Huge, friendly crowd took the lack of cable cars in literal stride as they hoofed/strolled up California Street, filling these beautiful venues, and dazzling the unsuspecting. Thanks so much to ALL the game participants! @stookeyscm ・・・ #Repost @starrwaytoheaven ・・・
Never had a chance to post a picture from Saturday’s Cable Car Caper! When life gives you lemons… put on your walking shoes! With late breaking news of the California Street cable car line being down today, we’ll be walking, bussing, or car-servicing, along the #1920s Caper route today! Staying on Schedule!
2:00 pm. Gathering now at Tadich Grill! 240 California Street. Tadich's is California's oldest restaurant, and its interior, menu and wonderful service are a sort of time-capsule of the 1920s- #1930s. Those wishing to eat lunch before the Caper (a splendid idea) should arrive at this time in order to enjoy a meal. The clam chowder is highly recommended!
3:00pm. Gather at the bar for a cocktail at #TadichGrill.
3:30 pm-4:00 Walk or bus from Tadich Grill to California St. & Grant Ave. Arrive at #FarEastCafe . 631 Grant Avenue.
4:00 pm. The Far East Cafe dates from 1928; enjoy the antique ceiling lanterns and notice the wood paneling and booths, while you sip a libation at the bar.
4:30 pm. Bus or car to Mason St. Arrive at the Tonga Room, in the Fairmont Hotel, 950 Mason Street at 5:00
5:00- 5:45pm. Not just any old tiki bar, the Tonga Room dates to 1929, when it replaced the hotel's Terrace Plunge. Enjoy the lagoon and watch out for the hurricane! The drinks are generous and tropical.
5:45 pm Stroll down the hill to Stookey's Club Moderne (our favorite post-Prohibition, ADSC award-winning, watering hole) for a special cocktail created just for us! 895 Bush Street.
6:00 Last stop! @stookeyscm !
